Hi everyone, I am Ronan Newman, from the West of Ireland and secretary of the Galway Astronomy club. galwayastronomyclub.ie. What a wonderful night seeing my first aurora in 8 years on Monday evening. Was actually the only person in the 32 counties to photograph this red aurora. Although will say not the best I have ever seen as the aurora of Halloween 3003 was much better Had a difficult time getting a clear location, ended up on the side of the road between a place called Killkelly and my home town ,Charlestown, with approaching dense fog to my south and east and heavy low cloud which was slowly retreating further North to my north, so I had a clear window of several miles, the best thing was I was close to Ireland West Arport which on on the top of a hill, at least 200m above sea level, later in the night the cloud went way north and even then there was a beautiful green glow at 4am, was a amazing night. A wonderful display, my second this year and the best since this time in 2003, red and greens all over the northern sky I hope e enjoy them and that some of ye got to see this And just before I went to bed this Of course could not sleep so look out at 4am, KP still at 7 See my flikr album here . R Newman's Photostream Most amazing was the Red sky in the rays, Rare, all-red auroras occur much higher, at 300 to 500 kilometers altitude and are associated with a large influx of electrons Ronan Newman
