Hello, I saw Jupiter low in the South East dawn sky this morning (05.40 am) The Gallileans just visible in 20X80 binos. The planet is too low and the sky too bright for any chance of imaging. This apparition will be similar to last year, with Jupiter remaining low in the South at opposition. Virgo

Well spotted!
Actually Jupiter will be considerably higher in the sky ... the declination at opposition will be 15S, was 22S last year.

Hello Brian, Yes, 7 degrees might make a difference when imaging, but the "window" will be short.Paradoxically I have found that the best time for imaging is not when a superior planet is at opposition, but when it is due South about one or two in the morning when the oil fired boilers have shut down for the night. John.

My local site requirement is that the target is in the SSW to W - got fields that way, houses to the E & S.
