Hello Folks, I gave up photographing the stars years ago due to increasing light pollution, as the pics became washed out after just 20 to 30 secs exposure. My skies are now much worse due to large retail developments which are floodlit all night .Recently I abandoned my trusty Practica MTL5 in favour of one of those new fangled digital SLR cameras. ( Nikon D60 ). A few nights ago I decided to explore the capabilities of this new device. I dug out an old Orion Sky glow LP filter and attached it to the Nikon 18- 55 mm lens, mounted the camera on my telescope tripod and set the ISO to 800 and the lens to F4 ( camera in manual mode ) I set the exposure to 30 seconds, using the remote hanset, as apparently cable release went out with the old film cameras. The resultant picture was pleasingly good given the dire state of the sky. Some slight processing in PSP7 to remove the magenta hue, and voila! a reasonably good pic of Taurus and M45. To see go to uk.geocities.com/iaa2000@btinternet.comRegards John
