Hi All, I was sorry to hear that the great scientist and former colleague of Fred Hoyle, has just retired. I am a fan of his and I am sure that the panspermia theory will be vindicated sooner or later! Every year approx 20,000 tonnes of meteoroids enter the atmosphere, multiply this by the age of the earth in years and you will get a very large number! The recent discoveries of 'extremophile' bacteria and lichens that can survive in vacuums, along with the nasa 'deep impact' observation that showed the comet was largely composed of organic compounds, all have given weight to the panspermia argument. Anyway I will give way to the 'unabashed hostility' that is sure to follow! news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/5320658.stm
