A new sunspot has appeared over the eastern limb of the Sun yesterday and so far has not been named but it is likely to be AR10957. I got a look at this evening at 19.07 BST with the ETX 90mm at 48X using my new Baader filter and could see it very easily near the E limb as a single dark and very obvious spot surrounded by a bright complex network of faculae which stood out in high contrast against the limb darkening. There was a small pore near the umbra and a faint dark elongated smudge of material between the spot and limb which may be another group forming. Comparing my visual view with yesterdays SOHO image I suspect this spot is growing and is well worth watching. John, any images yet?

Yes Martin, nothing too impressive though, the seeing was a bit bouncy. The interesting thing was the expanse of faculae between it and the limb, and the white spot on the limb, which was seen visually.
