This is a shot of Venus I got on the 4th May at 20:16UT. It's the best 197 frames in Registax with the Toucam, x2 Barlow and the IR/UV filter I got recently from AndyMcC, (thanks Andy). Being taken while still daylight it was very difficult to align on the Pole Star, and with the very small FOV of the camera and barlow, quite frankly it was a nightmare! However, persistence paid off in the end.

Nice one John, that' s a brilliant image. When you say that it was the best of 197 frames, does that mean that you just looked through all the frames for the best one, or does registax do something? Robert.

That's an excellent shot John. I looked at Venus through a friend's ETX 105 in England on Staurday and it was boiling away, though the phase was clear enough. As you say, the more interesting crescent phase will be coming along soon!
Robert, Registax has the ability to pick the best images and only work with those. In effect it creates a jpg of each frame and works on the basis that the largest jpgs contain the most detail. It's excellent where there's alot of atmospheric distortion resulting in objects drifting in and out of focus.
Clear skies,
Paul.

Thanks Robert/Paul, Robert, about 240 frames were actually captured but Registax selected only 197 of the best. Not being able to align properly meant that there was some movement during the capture so the rest were dropped. The rest as above.

Ahh ok thanks for that, I am making some initial ventures into the Registax software to see if I can get better sunspot images. I know that registax can pick out the best frames itself, but I wasn't sure how it 'knew'.
