Bright full moon but the air was reasonably steady for a change! Also first light with the IS DMK21 camera I bought myself as a late Xmas present. 2010 Jan 01, 0107 UT. Celestron CPC1100, x4 Imagemate, Astronomik type 2c colour seperation filters, Astronomik Planet Pro 742 IR pass filter used for luminance image, Imaging Source DMK21 camera. Transparency good, seeing fair, light to moderate boiling with some reasonably steady instants.

Brian, that's a superb image! I take it that's the Syrtis Major on the right!

Yes, Syrtis Major on the right. I've presented this image with north up in line with modern practice i.e. inverted compared with what you would see in a scope when not using a diagonal.

Very good indeed - slightly lower colour saturation compared to your shot from 3rd Jan - difficult to say which is "right".

Neither of them! But the first image was a "quick & dirty" process (see how soon after capture it was posted). The night before last, whilst waiting for the clouds to clear, I had another go at the same AVIs and got this: May have gone too far with the colours? Also I worked up the set of AVIs I took immediately before this with x2 barlow 2010 Jan 01, 0055 UT, same details but using (Celestron Ultima SV) 2x barlow instead of 4x Imagemate.

I would say somewhere between those two would be about right!
How's this for a challenge? Do you reckon that with your 'scope and video camera it would be possible to capture images of Phobos and Deimos around opposition time??
