Hi All, Had a crack at capturing Jupiter and it's four main moons with Neptune in the far off distance on 17th Dec. 2009. It was quite low down. Used a Canon 400D, coupled to an 80mm Meade 5000 series triplet. Just one shot. No photoshop tweking, only image re-sized. Pook Attachments:

That's really a very good image Pook, I got a shot at them earlier this evening and they are a lot closer now. I think they are actually closest tonight.

Here's an image showing the Jupiter/Neptune conjunction taken about 1800UT tonight. The moon is overexposed on the right. This was 6 seconds with the 50mm 1.8 lens at f2.2 and 1600 ISO. Attachments:

Hi John, Nice shot. I'm impressed with the pin sharp stars. I'll have to practice more. Pook

Nice shots both, illustrating very different techniques! I missed this one last night - I needed to get up the hill for a clear SW view and the car simply couldn't get enough grip on the ice and snow!
Paul.

Got this shot last night of the Moon/Jupiter conjunction. As well as Neptune you can also see the moons of Jupiter. Taken with a Sigma 70/300mm lens and 6 seconds. Attachments:
