This is a borderline image between astro and atmospherics but what the heck I'm posting it anyway! Before retiring last night (Nov 4th) I noticed that the moon was in quite a close conjunction with the Pleiades. So out came the camera and then the clouds! In this case the clouds helped make the picture as a beauty of a corona formed around the moon. This was taken with a Sigma 70-300mm lens and one sixth second on ISO1600 f6.3 at 01:46UT. Attachments:

Hey John, That's a really unusual shot, especially with the Pleiades nicely sitting to the left of what looks like an explosion! Nice one. Pook

Looks pretty astronomical to me John! An excellent shot - it's always hard to catch both the Moon and the stars of M45 due to the huge difference in brightness between them, but using the clouds to help even things out is a neat trick!
Paul.

Thanks guys, it is difficult to get a happy medium when the moon happens to be so bright, in this case I took about a dozen shots and this and the one below were the best. The one below shows the full splendour of the corona which actually covers the Pleiades on the left side. Attachments:
