Clearish again on the morning of August 9th, with some patchy high cloud. Very heavy dewfall was another serious issue. I decided to image with my William Optics FLT 110, this proved to be a good decision as the seeing was bad - rapid boiling with considerable amplitude. Variable high cloud & mistiness did not help at all. So, the Moon: (click twice for full size version, annotated with full details) and Jupiter (with Io sneaking onto the left edge of the frame, and moving fast enough to cause a registration issue in the RGB version. Using straight red for luminance fixes that one!) Note the brighter background in the blue image: the sky was getting quite bright by this stage. A carefully chosen gamma reduction was used to make this frame balance with the others. Venus escaped imaging as thickening high/mid level cloud interfered and persisted practically all day.

A couple of closeups. More of these were shot but failed due to interference from high cloud & condensation on the scope objective (despite dew shield!) Moretus, 0424 UT: Tycho / Clavius area, 0407 UT: Taken with William Optics FLT 110, 4x Powermate, Astronomik type 2c red filter & Imaging Source cameras (DMK21AU618 & DMK41)
