Hi I'm new to this forum and I haven't got a chance to say hello yet. So here it is, I'm from Londonderry and ever since I watched Stargazing Live I have become very interested in astronomy and also a career in astronomy. I recently became part of the NIAAS forum and in doing so came across this forum also. I have been looking for a good starting scope and hoping to come to a Stargazing Night, although because of where I live its hard to attend nights, so I have been chatting to Ronny about Meeting up in the North - west, so if anybody else is interested let us know! Thanks Jack Gibson

Hi Jack, Thanks for coming onto the IAA forum and delighted you are thinking about a career in astronomy! One of our members and the editor of our magazine 'Stardust' is Andy McCrea. Andy owns North Down Telescopes, the link for it is on the main page. He will give you sound advice on what to buy. His phone number is on his web page. Regarding a career in astronomy, it will depend on what stage you are at, but we have numerous contacts who may be able to offer you advice in QUB, Armagh Observatory and in many universities throughout the UK and the ROI. We also organise observing nights throughout the country and this includes the north of the province, so keep an eye on our webpage for future details. Pook
