Hi folks,
There will be an IAA observing session tonight, 12-2-10, at Delamont Country Park, starting around 7.30pm. The 16" will be on display, so we'll get a look at some galaxies! ;D Usual conditions apply, please be there before 9pm, wrap up warmly, and bring something to eat/drink etc. If you need some advice on your telescopes and binoculars, bring them along too.
Temperatures will be around zero, so please drive carefully on any B roads and the entrance drive to the car park.
See you all there!
David Stewart (observing coordinator)

Hope the session went well guys - I am still taking it very easy with going out in the cold air though I did get as far as setting my LXD75 mount up last night - I got a single shot of Polaris while I was lining up, then the clouds rolled over before I'd even finished getting my two alignment stars! So here is that one shot, appropriately for Valentine's weekend perhaps, this is "the Engagement Ring" asterism - the "diamond" is Polaris. Paul.

Hi Folks, Thanks to everyone who attended our observing session on 12-2-10. The weather wasn't good enough to bring the 16" scope to Delamont, but we had enough clear spells and a couple of scopes and binoculars to enjoy the winter sky, and a look at Mars. Our next planned observing session is the weekends beginning 12th and 19th March. Keep an eye on the forum for details. Clear skies David. Attachments:

Hi everyone, Young Ryan and myself had a good time at the observing session on Friday night. I got to hear of more interesting Messier objects and some good advice on my SCT optics. Ryan got some real good education on some of the star names, constellations and a good view of Mars, Orion nebula, M37 and many more. Think that might be another young astronomer in the making My thanks to David for all the advice and everyone else who we were talking to, it was a most welcoming and entertaining evening, even better when the clouds cleared Thanks, Paddyman

Hi Paddy,
Glad you and Ryan enjoyed the evening, and its good to see your enthusiasm rubbing off on young master Ryan! If you can keep him interested in astronomy now, he'll have it for the rest of his life, and pass it on to future generations!
David.
