Hi folks, I hope everyone that got to Delamont last weekend had a good night? I'm planning a second observing session this month. At the moment, the weather forecast for Friday 23rd is looking better than the 24th. This may also be our best opportunity to view comet Lovejoy in a dark sky before the Moon gets too bright etc. Usual rules apply, wrap up well (especially feet!!) and bring something to eat/drink etc. If you are new to our observing sessions at Delamont, please try to arrive no later than 8pm as other observers will be trying to get their eyes dark adapted and not spoiled by car headlights etc Also, please ask any of our regular members and experts on observing, they will be more than willing to help you find your way around the sky and enjoy the views through the telescopes etc. Please check this forum around 6pm for an update, let me know if you are interested in coming etc. I'll also text if its on also. See you there! David

I should be able to make it tonight as well.
I see there is a rare triple shadow transit of Jupiter due to take place tonight. Only problem is, it isn't due to start until 03:10! The other 2 will likely be too late for us to catch unfortunately. I'll try and arrive a bit later than usual, say around 10ish, in the hope of staying on to see the first transit. That is if another fellow Night-Owl like myself is willing to stick around too.

Hi Folks, The weather is looking reasonable for some observing tonight, so Delamont is "ON" for the 23-1-15. According to the BBC weather, there should be a few clear spells and some cloud, with temperatures about +4 Usual rules apply, wrap up well (especially feet!!) and bring something to eat/drink etc. If you are new to our observing sessions at Delamont, please try to arrive no later than 8pm as other observers will be trying to get their eyes dark adapted and not spoiled by car headlights etc Also, please ask any of our regular members and experts on observing, they will be more than willing to help you find your way around the sky and enjoy the views through the telescopes etc Primary targets will be Comet Lovejoy, Jupiter, and the winter nebula See you there Clear skies

Enjoy everybody!
Unfortunately I can't get out this week but I did enjoy last weeks observing (though three layers of clothing wasn't enough to stop the chill getting through) with those who showed up. Good luck to Ciarán, if you can get images of it please post them I'd love to see it. I'm going to try Jupiter this evening from near Moneyreagh and get some sketches. After John Flannery's lecture about sketching to learn the sky I figured he may have a point and I'm going to try it out.

Thanks astrom32 (tip: you can edit your signature to display your name ) I didn't stay long enough for the transits, the wind was picking up and it was absolutely freezing so myself and Ivan called it a night at 01:15. I did manage to get a decent image of Jupiter before i left though: irishastro.proboards.com/thread/1158/jupiter-delamont-jan-23Hope the sketching went well.
