Hi Folks, Just a quick heads up, I'm considering another observing session on the 29th-30th of November if anyone is interested? We had an observing session on 1st of November which fulfills our commitment for this month, but as Paul announced observing for the 29-30th at the last meeting we may as well take advantage if the weather plays ball The Moon will be well out of the way too If you are interested, let me know via this thread or by text/phone etc Clear skies David.

Should be OK for either 29 or 30 with a slight question mark over 29th.
Regards
Alan.

Hi there. I'm the Physics teacher at Shimna College in Newcastle. I would like to bring along our (very small) Science Club to your open observing session at Delamont on Fri 29th Nov, and maybe the one on the 6th December too. We would be a small group of students, teachers and parents. Can you let me know if this Friday's session is going ahead (subject to the conditions given about the weather etc)? Thanks
Alasdair

how long will ISON be visible for? will there be any observing for it Too close to the sun until the end of the first week in December. (If it survives perihelion passage on Nov 28!) If it does reappear after perihelion, it will again be in the morning sky.

Hi Alisdair, Thanks for your enquiry, we'd be delighted to have you and you pupils at any of our observing nights at Delamont. We are hopefully planning an extra night this weekend, weather depending of course. Please check this thread by Thursday evening by which time the weather forecast should be accurate enough to post a go/no go. If that doesn't work out, perhaps you might be interested in a couple of our outreach events coming up on the 7th Dec at Lough Neagh Discovery Centre (Supper with the Stars) and on the 8th at Silent Valley on the Mournes. We will have access to Armagh Planetarium's mobile stardome at LNDC which is very popular with kids and a good alternative if its cloudy/raining. Keep an eye on the front page for more info. Its a pity Ison is so close to the sun Hopefully we'll see you all at one of those events David Observing coordinator

Unfortunately due to mostly cloudy conditions with a possibility of occasional showers, the observing session at Delamont on 29th November is cancelled. Please check this forum again on Saturday for an update on conditions. Forecasts show a few breaks in clouds though, so you never know.........
David.

Hi everyone, I hope it's clear for the 30th night but don't think I can make it unless other plans get cancelled in the next few hours Welcome to the forum Allisdair, hope to see you at an upcoming meeting. One of your pupils has been with me to a few observing nights at Delamont with the IAA group and helped us out at last January's Stargazing Live event with the BBC at Oxford Island. Hopefully it will be clear this weekend or next as I see it on the Observing nights list. David, If you get time could you put a copy of the observing posts on the IAA's Facebook page as some people still don't know about this forum or like myself - forget to check on both, I know I'm getting forgetful, must be old age, lol Paddy
