I am new to this forum and i live in North Belfast near Queens.
I am hoping to go out with my friends to look at the quadrantids tonight - based on the clear sky forecast - around 4:30 am in the morning and also to see the sunrise
I am wondering which place is better to go to - the big collins picinic area, or delamont country park ? This is the first time im actually bringing friends with me ... Haha so dont really know which one is better. But the seeing conditions on the forecast said big collins has about 10 - 20% better seeing condition than delamont ? And also the website said big collins have good view towards the north and east. Which is good for quandrantis .
Would really appreciate if anyone can give me any tips! We are also planning on doing some light painting or some small barbeque if we can !
Thanks much !

Hi Legendkiller778, First, welcome to the IAA forum. Hope to meet you at our next meeting night at QUB on 9th Jan.
My advice would be to go for Delamont. Big Colin suffers from a reasonable amount of light pollution from Belfast and the headlights of cars going past doesn't help. Delamont has a superb dark car park, good for scopes etc and for some reason Strangford Lough seems to have a positive effect on dissipating the the clouds, though don't ask me why. Anyway hope this helps and please post some details of your observations on this forum. Good luck and HNY! Pook

Hi thanks very much for your reply ! We will use the delamont country park tonight then ! Would it better to enter the park or just stay in the car park ? I would really like to make the 9th Jan if i can, but it will most likely be the case that i will be posted in Derry for my clinical attachments.

Hi LK778, No need to go into the park. When you go down the long drive, turn into the car park on the RHS. That's where we hold our observing nights. Don't forget to look about 50/60 degrees away from the radiant, not directly at it. Best to bring a lounger to save neck strain. Hope you are successful. Pook

Hi thanks for the helpful tips again !
What do you mean by 50/60 degrees away from radiant? I read that i need to look at Bootes for this Meteor shower , is that the same thing ?
fingers crossed for tonight haha =]
