When imaging the Sun yesterday afternoon I noticed a flare was in progress in the trailing part of active area 11471. The intense brightness remained for about 10 minutes before starting to fade & though conditions were poor with some thin high cloud, bad seeing with severe boiling and a strong wind I was able to capture a sequence of images showing the progress of this event. (Solarscope 60, 2.5x Powermate, Imaging Source DMK21AU618) The region appeared normal in the overview shot made at 1421 UT. (Solarscope 60, 0.5x focal reducer, Imaging Source DMK41) Note also the peculiar roughly rectangular area just to the left of the area where the flare took place. This region was faintly traceable on the previous day's closeup of the area. 2012 Apr 29, 0921 UT. William Optics FLT 110, 2.5x Powermate, Solarscope SF-100 Ha filter set, DMK21AU618 - 2 frame mosaic.
