Hi Folks,
I won't be able to put a 6pm posting on the forum about observing on Friday 16th, so I'm posting this notice in advance.
Looking at BBC weather/Metcheck, the forecast for tomorrow evening isn't looking great, with rain forecast, although it may start to clear later on toward midnight. The forecast for Saturday 17th is looking a bit better, but again not ideal for a Messier Marathon which demands clear skies from dusk to dawn (may also be drowning my shamrock!) Check this forum again on Saturday for another update. David.

Hi Folks,
It looks like the weather is in our favour tonight, so there will be an IAA observing session in Delamont tonight 17-3-12, starting around 7pm. I've called this a Messier Marathon, but we won't be taking things too seriously, just a bit of fun too see how many we can knock off before the tiredness/cold sets in. I've printed off a few Messier observing lists, and we can tick off as we go. Ivan will be our guide tonight, the observing "Expert" ;D Usual conditions apply, wrap up and bring something to eat/drink etc
You can ring me on 07808736963
See you there, David
PS. don't use metcheck to check weather forecasts, I've had several viruses trying to get into my pc when I open the site! Anyone else found this?

Hope you all enjoy this evening, I'm sorry I can't be with you, I am at a St Patrick's Day concert instead when I should be photographing the Zodiacal Light and looking out for Auroras!
Paul.

Still there this mornng, antivirus kicked in as soon as I opened the Metcheck site. (I've recently started using MS Security Essentials - so far it's very good, does what it says it will, doesn't push unnecessary stuff like McAfee and Norton do, and it's a free download!!)

Hi Folks,
Thanks to everyone who attended our Messier Marathon last night. Unfortunately things didn't go to plan, with mostly cloudy conditions at sunset. We also had a number of undesirables drinking and singing nearby, although they didn't bother us. When the clouds eventually cleared for a while, we were able to observe about 20 Messier and a number of NGC objects, but the mist and cloud quickly came back in and dewed up our scopes, so after tea and coffee and some lovely cake made by Sharon (yum yum!!) we decided to wrap it up about 10.30pm.
I'm sure we'll beat that target next year!
See you all at the Lough Neagh Event on 30th March!
David.
