Hi, I was at the Jupiter watch at Queens, but the sheer number of people meant that I could not get anywhere near the telescopes. Hopefully the event whetted the public's appetite for astronomy, and we will see an influx of new members to the association. After talking to a few visitors it would appear that astronomy is " cool ", whatever that might mean and it would seem that it is no longer seen as nerdy. The Council and the members who assisted are to be congratulated for all the hard work and dedication they showed during the events. Perhaps the BBC or some other broadcaster will consider a regular programme about astronomy with a distinctive local slant!

Certainly the interest throughout Stargazing Live has been fantastic. Over the four events we were involved in some 2400 people have attended and they all seemed to enjoy themselves. I've also heard from my colleagues in the BBC that the programmes have gone down well - most notably the 2hr Radio programme from Delamont which was of course helped by pretty much perfect weather conditions, so I think there is a possibility of there being more to come!

I didn't get to the QUB Jupiter watch for lack of time and missed the Delamore event through being out of the country. However there is clearly scope for more events ... possibly around first quarter moon from a city location to get a good view in late winter / early spring and no need to worry about light pollution! Could easily start 1/2 hour before sunset and get Venus as well. Mars is going to be more difficult due to small disc & wobbly seeing ...
