My first experience of anything astronomical was on July 1954 when a partial eclipse of the Sun occured. Our school science master herded us outside and issued us with bits of smoked glass in order to observe the eclipse. While we viewed the event he tried to explain what caused the eclipse, but most of us had no interest, but simply were glad to excape from the maths, french , latin and geography for a short while. However, I was interested enough to track down the few books on astronomy in the school library.

i've always been interested in the universe, reading/TV documentaries etc but i haven't witnessed much with my own eyes.
but events that stick out are the commet that sat in the sky for a few days back in the early 90s then an eclipse again in the late 90s i think, where it got earily dark at noon.
these didn't take much effort though, everyone can see it, so i've got myself a pair of binos to see how i get on. really want to see some planets and galaxies first hand!

Hello Cruiser, Astronomy is a great hobby, but it can be addictive, or easily obsessional. You can be getting out of a warm bed to view some astronomical event at any unearthly hour. but that is the nature of the hobby. Virgo
