My SW Synscan was working ok with the battery power pack but when it got low on power I tryed a AC/DC adaptor I got with my SW auto. But on powering up the handset beeped and said, No link to mount stand alone mode. The adaptor is, input 110-240v max 0.7A 60/50Hz. Output 12v...2A. Question is, have I fried something in the handset or motors? Or do I need a new handset or worse...new motors or is there an easier solution. Thanks Peter btw. the manual says the synscan requires 12-volts nominal power.

Did you try recharging or replacing the battery?
Which mount are you using? 2A isn't enough for a HEQ5 / EQ6 ...

That's my thought as well Peter - it's most likely that your power supply doesn't have the current delivery to drive the mount - they do take quite a lot, particularly at the point of starting the motors, so the likelihood is that if you get the battery recharged all will be well.
Good luck!
Paul.

Thanks for your replies. The good news is that she worked when I tried it this morning, once, but not any more so it probably not fried. I know the power pack is knackered so charging up a new one at the minute. Will let you know what happens. Peter.

If a mains supply is nearby you can dispense with battery power.Maplins sell a mains adaptor which can pump out 12volts regulated up to 5 amps. This is more than adequate for most mounts. Incidentally my Skywatcher 17 ah power unit has gradually lost capacity over the last year and I barely get 2 hours use before the mount low voltage warning is flashing. Attachments:
